Ocho Rios, Jamaica

Jamaica 12/10/11 – 12/13/10

It was the end of November (11/29/10) and I was eagerly counting down the days for Amber and I to go to Dominican Republic in January. With Christmas and her birthday coming up, I was trying to figure out what to get her. That day at work, I was talking to a coworker who said she went to two different countries during thanksgiving time. I was blown away and fantasizing about traveling myself. Growing up, my family didn’t really travel as much as I would have liked. I went to Disney World twice, Miami, Las Vegas and other surrounding states nearby. That night, I decided I couldn’t wait until Dominican Republic in January. I did my research and found a great deal ($1307) for us to go to Jamaica. We would be staying at an All Inclusive Resort, Jewel Dunn’s River Beach Resort.

Right before I bought the package, I decided this would be a surprise for Amber so I had to keep this a secret for two weeks. Knowing how she is, I only told her that I was taking her somewhere hot so she could pack accordingly. What she didn’t know was that I had her passport shipped from her home in CT so she thought it would be an “America only” trip. We showed up at the airport and I filmed the reaction she had when I gave her the ticket to Jamaica.

So we were both amped and ready to go somewhere! Arriving in Jamaica was such an overwhelming experience. We went through the very in depth Jamaican border control and headed in a small van for an hour to our resort. I was taking pictures of everything! Amber couldn’t stop laughing at me like I was a tourist in times square.

Walking into the resort we were handed cocktails as a welcome drink. Already off to a great start, drinking the first second we waked in. We toured the resort which was full of restaurants, bars, activities, beautiful views and friendly Jamaicans. We booked reservations at the hibachi steakhouse and went to our room. Holy crap, this was a nice room! Our private balcony overlooked the resort and the water… an unbelievable view.

Pizza, burgers, chicken fingers, and jerk chicken whenever I wanted. I didn’t think it would be that glorious. I was in heaven. We grabbed drinks and went to the beach. Looking out to this beautiful view made me relaxed and happy I chose this place. I caught the bug… the travel bug. The staff was extremely friendly even during dinner at the Hibachi Restaurant.

The night life consisted of the bars in the resort, as well as a show with dancing and club music later in the night. We took full advantage of staying until the place closed down. I really got into the music.

Other than the food, drinks, and nightlife, we went to Dunn’s River Falls for an excursion. I highly recommend that for anyone willing to do some slippery rock climbing. You are literally climbing up multiple waterfalls. It was such a different experience and both Amber and I were excited with the first of our many thrills to come.

Amber came up with the idea to do a jumping picture. The rules were we both had to be off the ground in the air. It didn’t matter how far up we were just both feet off the ground. Here is the start of our global jumping picture adventure.

To sum up Jamaica
Jewel Dunn’s River Beach Resort – Amazing loved the food, the people, and the resort. Ready to go back there.
